E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills in the Home) is the Downers Grove Fire Department's Fire
Safety Clown. EDITH and her firefighter friends are available to teach fire
safety through a 20 minute show in the schools and for special community events.
Zany EDITH engages children in learning safety as she has them come up to help
with props
and safety lessons. At the end of the show, children are invited to
meet the firefighter of the show and see his
gear. Visit the flipbook on this
website to read a story about EDITH at the firehouse.
Playing it Safe - Edith's Safety Tips
Never play with matches.
If you find matches or lighters, tell a grown-up.
When the smoke detector goes off, get out
quickly.
Do not stop to bring your toys, pets, or other
items.
If you get a burn, run cool water on it immediately.
Stay away from gasoline. Make sure your parents keep it in the garage or
a shed. No amount of gasoline should ever be brought into the house.
When using an electrical appliance, check to see that the cords are not frayed or broken.
