Pals
Hey Kids Join the Downers Grove Fire Department’s Pluggie’s Pals Program.
The Downers Grove Fire Department offers a program known as Pluggie’s Pals for
children in the Village. Children sign up to
take care of a
hydrant in
their neighborhood. Care includes marking the hydrant so that it is easily visible in
snow, shoveling
snow from the curb to the hydrant and clearing snow from around
the hydrant. Children are also asked to report any
leaks or missing port caps.
Even the very young can enjoy participating in a program that helps the
firefighters. This
program is a good way for scout troops and other
organizations to help their neighbors and the firefighters.
In the spring, all participants in the Pluggie’s Pals program are treated to
a hot dog party and “Kids Muster” with the firefighters. The Kids Muster
includes a bucket brigade, tug-of-war, and obstacle course, along with other
activities. If your child is interested in this program, call 434-5980.
This winter, make clearing your hydrant a routine part of your snow shoveling. The home you save could be your own!
