A first grade or kindergarten classroom can adopt a Downers Grove Firefighter to teach the class fire safety. The firefighter comes with his
very own adoption certificate. He will pay five visits to his classroom throughout the school year. During his visits he will cover topics such as donning his gear
so children can see what a firefighter looks like in full turnout, Stop, Drop and Roll, Crawl Low Under Smoke, Placing 9-1-1 emergency calls, Match
and Lighter Safety, Cool a Burn, and Get Out and Stay Out in case of fire. These behaviors build on the lessons all Downers Grove preschoolers receive
in January, and creates a foundation for the lessons of the third grade Learn Not to Burn Program. For more information about the Adopt program,
please call Marsha Giesler at 434-5986.
