The File of Life is offered through the Downers Grove Township S.A.L.T. (Senior and Law Enforcement) Council and local Fire and Police Departments. A File of Life packet is available for one dollar at the Downers Grove Township Office, Downers Grove Fire Department Station 5 (6701 Main Street, Downers Grove), and the Downers Grove Police Department.
The File of Life is an easy-to-fill out form which contains information such as current medications and dosage, medical history, emergency contacts, and insurance information. The pre-printed form slips neatly into a red plastic pouch with a magnetic strip on the back. Ideally, in an emergency, the paramedics will find this pouch displayed on the front of the refrigerator. They will be able to access this information whether or not you are able to communicate with them. The File of Life also comes with a smaller version, which can be kept in the wallet or purse. Should you fall or need emergency medical care while away from home, the same information will be with you at all times.
